These are two fabulous wines from Cameron and Bahaneh Hobel. Both wines emerge from sites on Franz Valley School Road, one of the distinctive and jewel-like districts in all of Napa Valley. The Figure is sourced from Pozzan, while The Burl is spurced from Heritage School, both of them very close to Engelhard, where these wines started. Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown coaxes unreal complexity from both sites. The 2018 spent 17-18 days on the skins and saw 20 months in barrel. They are among the most compeling wines I tasted this year.
