The iconic Yarra Yering, founded by Bailey Carrodus in 1969, has long made some of the Yarra's most highly sought wines. The original vineyard is considered by many to be one of the region's finest terroirs, particularly for Cabernet Sauvignon. In recent years, and long after Bailey's passing in 2008, winemaking duties have been overseen by the talented Sarah Crowe, with significant expansion in the range. The leading Cabernet Sauvignons show admirable sophistication, with top vintages able to sail through two decades in the cellar. What was notable from tasting both current releases and back vintages (2017 and 2018) with Crowe was her efforts in evolving some wine styles, the New Territories Shiraz/Touriga blend and the Light Dry Red Wine clearly designed for earlier consumption and to be food-friendly styles. The Chardonnays were also impressive and very much in the modern Yarra style, although they should also age well.
