Now in its fifth generation and under the guidance of Sabine and Christof Tiefenbrunner, the family-run estate turns out a selection of wickedly delicious yet deceivingly refined expressions of both indigenous and international varieties from Alto Adige. Their estate holdings, totaling twenty-five hectares, can be found in the communes of Entiklar, Kurtatsch and Margreid, with another forty-five hectares which are farmed by trusted growers throughout the region. The portfolio is wonderfully diversified, with a selection of entry-level “Merus” wines that are pure expressions of variety and punch well above their price point, and up to their prestige “Vigna” selection, which includes the Feldmarschall Von Fenner which is sourced from the highest known elevation Müller-Thurgau vineyard in Europe at 1,000 meters. This house also happened to turn out some of the most consistently balanced and delicious expressions of the 2018 vintage, both red and white. Sometimes, while tasting through a portfolio of wines, you begin to expect that each one will outperform the one tasted before it. That was the experience with Tiefenbrunner.
