Ed Kurtzman is an old hand with Pinot Noir. His 2018s show the hallmark elegance of the vintage along with the powerful fruit that marks all of the wines he makes here, under his personal label, as well as for his consulting clients, notably Mansfield Dunne. Kurtzman has been working with Santa Lucia Highlands fruit since 1994, when he began his career at Bernardus and then continued on at Chalone, Testarossa, ROAR, Freeman and Sandler Wine Co. before going off on his own. As mentioned, these 2018s are deeply flavored, oak-kissed, fruit-forward wines and consistent with his style, but they also have the vibrancy and balance to age.
