Véronique & Thomas Muré showed a beautiful array of 2023 whites and reds, as well as a stunning Crémant from 2017 and a current release from 2020. Their whites are pictures of balance, while their Pinot Noirs become even more refined. The pair spoke of the dry summer of 2023 and of the fact that clay and limestone sites did better than stonier sites. Two storms brought rain “just when we needed them,” Thomas Muré said, on June 19 and July 18, as well as some rain in early August. Harvest started on August 28 with Crémant base and did not finish until October 11. The siblings are now clearly distinguishing between wines made from estate-grown and purchased fruit. The label no longer shows the family’s coat of arms for the Maison Muré wines, which are made from purchased fruit, all within a 10 km radius and all from estates that are certified organic and biodynamic. Only wines from estate-grown fruit show the Muré coat of arms, even though the brands are not officially separated into legal entities. The Murés have also added a further hectare of Grand Cru Zinnkoepfle in which they have grubbed up Pinot Gris to replant with Riesling.
