Although Bernhard Breuer was a pioneer in bringing dry rieslings back to favor in Germany, two of the 2011s from this estate's finest sites did not ferment to complete dryness. The same thing happened in 2012, but not with the same wines. Respecting nature's wishes, his daughter, Theresa, again bottled them as they were, two of the finest off-dry rieslings of the vintage. Not surprisingly, the estate writes only riesling on their labels. There is no mention of dry or off-dry, as if this information were irrelevant. Interestingly, the Berg Schlossberg, which did complete its sugars, weighed in at only 11.5% alcohol, making it the best of the lighter wines that are now so in demand by those who are tired of seeing rieslings rise to ever-higher levels of alcohol.
