Founded in 1999 on the valley's border that shares its name, Dominio de Atauta thrives on ancient vines planted in the poorest soils of this high-altitude valley, approximately 3,000 feet above sea level. The gravity-operated winery uses grapes from pre-phylloxera vines that stand side by side with oak trees. It also has ancient cellars carved into soils rich in limestone sediment and patches of sand. Acquired in 2008 by the Inveravante Group – who have investments in other wineries, including hospitality enterprises and renewable energy – Jaime Suárez now oversees winemaking. Dominio de Atauta’s style blends Ribera's intensity with Soria's finesse, producing parcel wines with a delicate tannic structure, especially La Mala and El Almendro. Parada de Atauta is another excellent opportunity to sample what this winery can do.
