Scott Hawley from Torrin has recently completed the construction of his new tasting room, which features vintages that go back twenty years. Hawley is determined to showcase how well the wines of Paso Robles, especially those of Torrin, mature over time, especially to the members of their wine club. I always look forward to visiting Torrin. Hawley’s style is significantly more balanced and racier than most would expect. That said, they are inherently Paso in origin. The 2021s are outstanding, yet be warned; in most cases, they will require cellaring. While Rhône varieties are a house specialty, don’t pass up the chance to taste the Pinot Noir Torrin, sourced from the Santa Maria Valley and produced using about 20% whole clusters.
