The Portet family, despite their experience and family connections with the likes of Château Lafite and Clos du Val, retains quite a low profile in the Yarra. They're best known for Rosé, both still and sparkling. But delve a little deeper, and there is much to admire. Bordeaux is clearly a strong influence, with a range of Cabernet and Merlot blends, as well as a delicious oak-fermented and matured Sauvignon Blanc, now under the guidance of Ben Portet. Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from the estate are also reliable, and new vineyards coming online will add more excitement to the wines. Classic Old-World winemaking techniques help to build wines that generally cellar well. Barrel tastings of 2023 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir showed an excellent vintage worth looking out for.
