Brigaldara was officially founded in 1979 by Stefano Cesari, though his father, Lamberto Cesari, was making wine already in the ‘50s and ‘60s for home use. The estate owns roughly 25 hectares under vine and another 20 are under long term contract rental agreements. The estate chose the name “Brigaldara” as the family name, Cesari, is common in Italy (it also is already the name of a wine estate in another Italian region). Brigaldara seemed like a good way by which to avoid confusion in the minds of consumers. “Brigaldara” is a name first mentioned in a deed dating back to 1260 and identifies the main villa and the other homes on the property. The Cesari family is especially adept at making highly refined Valpolicella and Amarone wines. They also own a significant parcel of old Dindarella vines with which occasionally the estate makes a monovarietal, fresh light bodied wine that is a real rarity.
