Rioja’s famed CVNE has ventured into Ribera del Duero and, as might be expected, the quality of their single bottling, called Bela, is quite high. Even better, CVNE opted to launch the wine at an exceptionally friendly price given what’s in the bottle, for which they should be roundly applauded. It’s aged in a combination of new and used French and American oak barrels that makes it quite approachable on release. Quality here can only go up as the highly accomplished and well-funded team develops their grounding in a new region. I expect to see new, higher-end cuvées emerge over the next few years.
