Wenzlau
Bill Wenzlau owns what many insiders are calling one of the great sites for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Central Coast. The property spans 100 acres, only 12 of which are plantable, which is probably the main reason other potential buyers passed, as those numbers aren't exactly the type of thing that makes accountants happy. Wenzlau has enlisted the services of Justin Willett to make the wines, a decision that is paying off already with these first releases. Wenzlau's next project is a sparkling wine being made under the guidance of none other than Cedric Bouchard, the cutting-edge Champagne grower who has fallen in love with California over the last few years. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how that wine develops. For now, there is plenty to admire in these 2011s.
