Not much has changed at Tertre Rôteboeuf, although the front door bell has finally been replaced by a modern buzzer. François Mitjavile has a pretty unique take on the vintage. “We started picking on October 5, so it was not especially early harvest. This explains the explosiveness of the aromatics and fruit. In Bordeaux, the vintages of intense heat – 1929, 1945, 1947 – all have tremendous intensity of flavor and perfume. So, we don’t worry too much about elevated ripeness. For example, I planted Merlot in my most recent developments.” The four 2022s are all around 15% in alcohol and show quite a bit of youthful intensity at this stage.
