Talenti

Riccardo Talenti took over full management of the estate after his grandfather Pierluigi passed away in 1999. Two thousand one was only Talenti's third vintage. He’ll be the first to admit that it was a time of change, both in the vineyards and the cellar, which greatly affected the interpretation of the vintage. While focus remained on respecting the traditions of past generations, there was a desire to modernize and begin using the principles taught to him during his studies in enology and viticulture. At this time also climate change had finally been realized and accepted, creating further complications. In 2001, the Brunello di Montalcino was a blend of vineyards ranging between 250 to 400 meters in elevation. The wine spent about thirty months refining in medium-sized barrels and tonneaux. As for the Riserva, which at that time named Vigna del Paretaio, it was from the same vineyard that today makes the Piero. This location, originally planted by Pierluigi Talenti, thrives in soils rich in Galestro, producing a unique expression from the house Brunello. Today, Riccardo Talenti works hard to respect tradition, while keeping an eye on new, more progressive approaches and developments throughout Montalcino.

When asked about how the region has changed, Talenti added, “in recent years the greater experience and knowledge of the territory and the greater number of companies in competition have given the wineries a greater incentive to produce more and more quality wines, renewing vineyards paying attention to the quality of the grapes and more attention in the cellar.”
