Soldera - Case Basse

Over the last three years, I have had the opportunity to taste the 2018 Sangiovese from Soldera – both from barrel and now from bottle. However, the 2018 Sangiovese achieved a lovely balance. The 2018 vintage proved very difficult for most wines in Montalcino. It was a vintage that lent incredibly well to producing Rosso di Montalcino. However, when most Brunellos arrived, I witnessed wines that lacked depth and possessed uneven, often underripe tannins. Even as many Riservas are now crossing my tasting table, my opinion remains the same. At Soldera, instead of working to make the wine feel more important through wood sensations (as many producers did), the team leaned into the exotic qualities, fruit and energy of the vintage. The result is one of the most exciting young wines I’ve ever tasted here. Do I expect the 2018 will still be singing thirty years from now? Probably not. However, I do expect this beauty to overperform over the next ten to twenty years, providing an interpretation of time and place that will thrill Soldera lovers.
