Screaming Eagle
Screaming Eagle remains one of the most talked-about estates in Napa Valley, for many reasons. One of the biggest changes here in recent years has been the installation of overhead misters. Whereas Screaming Eagle was once one of the first estates to pick, today it is one of the last, and that is directly correlated to how water is used today. What this means precisely for the long term remains to be seen, but the increasingly widespread use of misters has changed farming at many estates in Napa Valley.
Two thousand twenty-two was a very difficult vintage at Screaming Eagle. Merlot was heavily impacted by intense heat and drought, to the point that the winery did not bottle The Flight. Cabernet Sauvignon fared quite a bit better. The 2022 is a pretty wine, one that reflects the lighter style of year nicely.
