Salvioni

The 2020 Brunello from Salvioni is deep, complex, structured and completely atypical of the vintage. The fruit has an extra measure of ripeness, yet it’s perfectly balanced by sweet tannins and brilliant acidity—a mix that many 2020s lack. Salvioni produced just under 11,000 bottles of Brunello in 2020 and 9,000 bottles of Rosso. The Rosso, which consists of declassified fruit, is an excellent indicator of the Brunello's quality. That said, Salvioni planted a new hectare of Sangiovese this past January. The new plantings are currently classified as IGT, but with the changes to the regulations of the DOC, they will likely be used for Rosso di Montalcino when they come of age. This will significantly change the Salvioni production process, as they currently use their older vines for the Brunello and younger vines for the Rosso.
