Pyramid Valley

Pyramid Valley is one of the few New Zealand vineyards planted on limestone. Located in a remote rural area in North Canterbury, Pyramid Valley's home vineyard is a tiny, close-planted amphitheater dedicated to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Acquired by US billionaire Brian Sheth in partnership with New Zealander Steve Smith MW, 2018 marked the first vintage under new ownership. The very artisanal but lauded wines have become increasingly refined and stable, allowing the wines to age more consistently. Its Angel Flower is the more seductive of its Pinot Noirs; Earth Smoke is more ethereal. Of its home vineyard Chardonnays, the Lion’s Tooth is a little quieter than the Field of Fire. Both need three to four years before they are approachable. Under its new owners, the Pyramid Valley label has extended its reach to vineyards beyond its Waikari HQ.
