Petrus
“It was a season that was hard,” Olivier Berrouet told me at Petrus. “We had a succession of very different types of weather with an early bud break in March. The vines exploded in growth. May and June were rainy and cool, then there was no rain from mid-June to mid-August when we had 35mm that helped finish the véraison. We started the harvest with the young vines on 5 September and then most was picked between 10-18 September. Our fear was to have a wine affected by the weather conditions and finally, when we picked, we were quite surprised by the quality of the grapes. I think that is 90% because of the soil and also the cool nights helped for the tannins and the aromas, allowing the vines to rest. We had 14.8° alcohol in the end with 3.65 pH. It is matured in 50% new oak.”
