Oasi degli Angeli
Eleonora and Marco Casolanetti are turning out a scant 5,800 bottles of what is fast becoming a cult wine, the decadently rich and soft Kurni, made from tightly spaced old vines (as thick as 15,000 vines per hectare) and very low yields. As good as the wine is, insiders know that this dynamic young duo used to make an amazingly intense and perfumed trebbiano as well, but that wine, unfortunately, is no longer sold to the public. Years ago I tried to convince Marco that the wine was so good it merited a following, but he never liked the variety and didn't want to spend the time on it he might have devoted to montepulciano. N.B.: Their country trattoria is a wonderful place to get a bite to eat.
