Maurizio Alongi is one of the new generations of emerging producers in Chianti Classico making compelling wines. Alongi’s Chianti Classico Riserva emerges from Vigna Barbischio, a dramatic mountain site basically surrounded by forest on three sides. There are two blocks; the first lies at 400-460 meters in altitude, while the second smaller piece is a bit lower. Both parcels are south facing, but the row orientation in the upper block encourages earlier ripening. The wildness of Vigna Barbischio is compelling, as is the wine.
