Le Rocher Des Violettes

After his studies, Xavier Weisskopf worked at Château de Saint Cosme in Gigondas before establishing his own estate in Montlouis about ten years ago. While Rocher aux Violettes is the name of the cellar in Amboise, he is now in the process of moving his operation to Dierre in order to be closer to the vineyards. His focus is clearly on chenin blanc, and he certainly produces some of the finest wines of the appellation of Montlouis, but he also makes a small quantity of two reds. He prefers his 2012 Côt Vieilles Vignes (87), which is partially from 123-year-old vines, but my nod went to the cabernet franc.
