Labégorce

Labegorce and Labegorce-Zede was a single estate before the French Revolution, and it's entirely possible that these two holdings-now owned, along with Marquis d'Alesme Becker, by the Perrodo family-will be combined into a single wine within the next few years, once the new cuvier is finished. Philippe de Laguarigue, ex-regisseur at Chateau Montrose, was hired last year; he told me he has already gone back to traditional winemaking (the property was doing cold macerations and using enzymes before he took over). Of the three 2007s I tasted here, I was most impressed by the Labegorce itself, which is planted on soil rich in clay and limestone (the Zede is more gravelly).
