When tasting the Vino Rosso Breg from Gravner, it’s easy to see why Pignolo is enjoying increased interest throughout Friuli. This house has mastered the tannin management of this variety and the release schedule. The common belief is that Pignolo can take at least ten years to soften its harsh tannin. I believe it takes much longer. For example, when tasting the 2008 Vino Rosso Breg, a varietal Pignolo, I’m faced with a bottle of wine just entering its drinking window. This year's releases also include the 2014 Ribolla Gialla Anfora. The 2014 vintage is known for being a year where it seemed the rain would never end. Many 2014s are very rustic and light-hearted with oxidative notes. Sometimes they can surprise. The 2014 from Gravner, on the other hand, is pure seduction in the glass.
