The harvest here was relatively early, and the wines, while superficially ripe, at times showed rather green or constricted phenolic character. Tasting through the 2002 reds, I found the zweigelt deliciously convincing, but pinot noir and cabernet disappointing compared to other recent vintages. Salomon, by the way, is about to join the small group of Austrian vintners whose methods are certifiably biodynamic. Alas, he still has no U. S. importer. Also recommended: 2003 Gruner Veltliner Patronatswein, 2003 Weissburgunder Brunnberg, 2003 Gelber Traminer.
