The food:
Poached egg with frogs, snails and shrimp (L’oeuf poché des prés et des riviere…grenouilles, escargots, écrevisses)
Warm rabbit gibelotte stew with elderberry flowers and confit onions (La gibelotte tiède de lapin à la fleur de sureau et aux oignons confits)
Salmon soufflé “Auberge de l’Ill” (Le saumon soufflé “Auberge de l’Ill”)
Frog mousse “Paul Haeberlin” (La mousseline de grenouilles “Paul Haeberlin”)
The truffle under the ash (La truffe sous la cendre)
I doubt there is a more enjoyable manner anywhere in the world by which to start off dinner than out on the patio at l’Auberge de l’Ill’s magical riverside location. The meandering, lazily ebbing waters of the Ill river are enough to lull you to sleep, but the fairy tale, extremely picturesque setting is such that you’ll stay wide awake as you peruse the rather large menus you’ll be handed by your waiter as you take your seat outside.
