practically every Beaujolais report, I remind readers that some Beaujolais
wines have a propensity to mature in bottle as well as any Pinot Noir from the
Côte d’Or. A recent magnum poured at a dinner in Beaune during the week of

Chiroubles from Domaine Cheysson is an absolute peach. Limpid in color,
it has a delightful nose of Morello cherries, crushed strawberry and iodine,
slowly moving into secondary, forest floor scents and hints of wild fennel. The
palate offers plenty of ripe Gamay fruit, a sweet core of black cherries, black
olives and saliva-inducing salinity. What I really appreciate is the weight and
balance of this Chiroubles on the finish. There’s structure and grip that will
ensure it will continue to drink well for another 15-20 years. 92/Drink
