What a pleasure it is to taste Col d'Orcia's 1965 Brunello di Montalcino, a wine that was still in barrel when the Marone Cinzano family bought the property in 1973. Mocha, worn-in leather, molasses and tobacco are some of the notes that emerge from this deeply-colored, intense Brunello. The 1965 is decidedly rustic, rough around the edges and fully mature, but it also possesses remarkable density for a wine of its age. Although not especially refined, the 1965 has unquestionably held up well.
