The label was tattered, but since when has that affected a wine’s flavour? The wine reminded me of a 1955 Bonnes-Mares that Christophe Roumier himself poured blind at the end of an epic vertical in London. That 1955 remains one of the greatest wines that has ever graced my palate. Had I been blessed again? Almost…&nbsp;<img alt="" src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/images.vinous.com/uploads%2F1766416761726-CF_Dec222025.JPG">The 1955 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is the epitome of mature Pinot Noir. This would have been made by Georges Roumier, probably assisted by his youngest son, Jean-Marie. The 1955 shows a faint bricking on the rim. The nose has a haunting beauty that is difficult to translate into words: glistening red fruit, crushed stone and light forest floor, with a crystalline quality that seems undimmed by age. The palate is in absolutely perfect balance. The flavours shimmer, which sounds nonsensical but neatly communicates how it feels, as if every atom is vibrating. Boasting lace-like tannins, weightless yet with a sense of grandeur, this is a transcendental Les Amoureuses from one of Burgundy’s greatest winemakers in one of its finest vintages. 99/Drink 2025-2035. © 2025, Vinous.
